The Old Pine, Darien, CT

The Old Pine at Darien CT. Loosely based on historic painting by that name by the late John Freidrick Kensett, over 100 years ago. I was inspired to try my hand at it also, but his being superior to mine. I did, however, like all of the subtle colors that I added in the sky.

I do not always paint what was in front of me. I will photograph a dirt road in one place and a creek somewhere else, then merge them into one landscape that never existed. Sometimes I add something that belongs there anyway, like the red hawk at Valley of the Gods, or the elk I snuck into a commission as a surprise for a client.
