Shiprock Dawn

I got up before dawn to visit the sunrise at Shiprock. It was worth it for the sense of awe at witnessing this beautiful site.

A lot of these paintings started with my teardrop trailer. I will pull it out to places like Shiprock or Valley of the Gods, camp overnight, and be up before dawn chasing the long shadows. Sometimes my Chihuahua comes along. More than once a view has stopped me in my tracks and I have driven home knowing exactly what I am going to paint.
