I Was Too Cold

A student showed me winter a photo she had taken and I fell in love with the image and asked permission to paint it. I asked about the orange sky, and she explained that it was because she was "too cold". She had been reluctant to roll the window down, and her brown window tint filtered the sky color. Amazing.

Landscape

I do not always paint what was in front of me. I will photograph a dirt road in one place and a creek somewhere else, then merge them into one landscape that never existed. Sometimes I add something that belongs there anyway, like the red hawk at Valley of the Gods, or the elk I snuck into a commission as a surprise for a client.
