Creek Road Near Taos, NM. While visiting Taos, I shot photos of a dirt road between the trees, and then photographed a nearby creek. While creating the painting, the two photos merged into one imaginary landscape.

I do not always paint what was in front of me. I will photograph a dirt road in one place and a creek somewhere else, then merge them into one landscape that never existed. Sometimes I add something that belongs there anyway, like the red hawk at Valley of the Gods, or the elk I snuck into a commission as a surprise for a client.
