Black & White Aspens. Painted for a show that was for black and white entries only. Kinda fun to imagine the colors, and good exercise to think only in values. Photo was taken somewhere along the Phantom Canyon.

I love the challenge of building texture. I paint thickly, in large blocks and strokes, sometimes with the brush working almost like a palette knife. On linen it is a blast. Some of these started on a black canvas, so the light shapes are negative-painted rather than laid on top.
